故事发生在二十世纪七十年代，凤凰小镇坐落在凤凰山下，是一个洋溢着宁静与安详气息的世外桃源。单纯善良的何三妹（练束梅 饰）爱上了在思想宣传队工作的李大庆（李健 饰），两人情投意合很快就走到了一起。然而这段感情却被一直暗恋着何三妹的杨豆筋（刘亭作 饰）抹黑成为了“奸情”，何三妹受到了组织的严厉惩罚，被发配到偏远的河东小学任教。 之后，杨豆筋又使诈，使得何三妹同李大庆之间产生了误会，杨豆筋此时趁虚而入，欺骗蒙蔽了天真的何三妹，让她成为了自己的新娘。在新婚之夜，何三妹终于识破了杨豆筋的真面目，可是一切都为时已晚，等待着何三妹的，是充满了屈辱和痛苦的婚姻生活。
